Jai Ram criticizes ₹25 crore celebration spend by Himachal Govt

Himachal Govt spent ₹25 crore on celebrations despite lack of achievements: Jai Ram

In Shimla, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur criticized the Himachal Pradesh government for spending over ₹25 crore on celebrating its two-year tenure. Speaking at a press conference, Thakur stated that while unemployed youth protested on the streets and development projects were stalled, the government used public money for extravagant events. “The government has no significant achievements to showcase, yet they celebrate. Public welfare schemes initiated by the previous BJP government were also discontinued,” he said.

Failure allegations and resignation demand

Thakur accused the government of failing on multiple fronts. He demanded the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, citing the pending pensions of HRTC retirees. “If the minister has any morality left, he should resign,” he added. The BJP also submitted a 106-page memorandum to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, highlighting alleged scams, anti-people decisions, and a growing “mafia raj” under the Congress government.

Job cuts and threat allegations

Thakur raised concerns about job losses and threats to government employees and journalists. He claimed that the Congress government had abolished 1.5 lakh vacant positions and terminated 10,000 outsourced employees. “Officers and employees are being threatened for speaking out, and journalists are being pressured to only praise the government,” he said. Thakur warned against using intimidation tactics, stating, “People will not be silenced by threats.”
