Karnataka seeks changes in Property Tax rules
Karnataka Government proposes amendments to Property Tax Payment rules
Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, D K Shivakumar, announced the government's intention to amend laws concerning property tax payment. Speaking at the 'Government at Your Doorstep' grievance redressal program, he acknowledged the public's concerns about tight deadlines and high penalties for property tax payments. The government aims to bring about reforms by extending deadlines and simplifying the payment processes after discussions with officials.
Call for responsible tax payment
While highlighting the government's commitment to introducing reforms, Shivakumar emphasized the importance of citizens promptly paying taxes according to their property ownership. He urged people to fulfill their tax obligations responsibly, aligning with the government's efforts to streamline tax procedures.
Responding to queries about the discomfort caused by short deadlines for penalty payments, Shivakumar acknowledged the served notices requiring tax and penalty payments within 3 to 7 days. He expressed the government's recognition of the challenges faced by citizens and assured that necessary amendments would be considered after discussions with officials.
Language mandate for signboards
Shivakumar also discussed the recent Cabinet decision mandating Kannada language on signboards. He asserted the government's commitment to Kannada by requiring 60% of the signboard space to be in the local language. This decision aligns with efforts to promote and preserve the cultural identity of Karnataka.
Regarding demands for the release of individuals arrested in connection with the KJ Halli and DJ Halli riots, Shivakumar emphasized the need for decisions to adhere to the legal framework. He highlighted ongoing discussions with legal teams and the responsibility to ensure justice for the guilty while protecting the innocent.
