Kerala Government honours Cannes Film Festival winners Kani Kusruti, Santosh Sivan, and others

The Kerala government has honored Malayali film professionals who excelled at the Cannes Film Festival. The cast of "All We Imagine as Light," including Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Hridhu Haroon, and Aziz Nedumangad, received recognition for their achievements. The film, directed by Payal Kapadia, won the prestigious Grand Prix Award. It premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival on May 23, becoming the first Indian film in 30 years to feature in the festival's main segment.

Santosh Sivan was also honored for receiving the Pierre Angenieux ExcelLens in Cinematography Award. These accolades highlight the remarkable talent and creativity present in Kerala's film industry.

Historic win for Payal Kapadia

Filmmaker Payal Kapadia made history on May 25 by winning the Grand Prix Award for her film "All We Imagine as Light." The film follows the lives of two nurses from Kerala, Prabha (played by Kani Kusruti) and Anu (played by Divya Prabha), who work in a Mumbai hospital and share an apartment. The plot revolves around the disruption in Prabha's life after receiving an unexpected gift from her estranged husband, and Anu's struggle to find privacy with her boyfriend. Their lives take a turn during a trip to a coastal town.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Kapadia, praising her achievement and acknowledging the film's impact on Indian cinema. Other notable figures, including Farhan Akhtar and Kiara Advani, also extended their congratulations.
