Kiran George shines bright: Second BWF super 100 title at Indonesia Masters

Kiran George, a promising Indian badminton player, clinched his second BWF World Tour Super 100 title by triumphing in the Indonesia Masters. In an intense men's singles final, he overcame Japan's Koo Takahashi in straight games. This victory adds to Kiran's growing list of achievements, including his first title at the Odisha Open in the previous year.

Kiran's triumph

The 23-year-old talent hailing from Kochi showcased his skill and determination as he defeated world No. 82 Takahashi in a closely contested match that lasted 56 minutes. Despite trailing 1-4 at the start of the match, Kiran gradually leveled the score at 8-8 and then surged ahead, ultimately claiming the first game. In the second game, both players battled fiercely, with Kiran managing to secure a lead at 16-11. However, Takahashi made a comeback, equalizing the score at 19-19. Nevertheless, Kiran remained composed, seizing his second game point after missing the first and clinching the victory.

Vimal Kumar, the director of Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy (PPBA) and a former chief national coach, expressed his delight with Kiran's performance, emphasizing the importance of consistency. He encouraged Kiran to maintain his preparation and continue to excel as he embarks on his journey to Hong Kong, emphasizing the opportunity to create surprises in the upcoming matches.

A rising star

Kiran, who trains at the PPBA in Bangalore, has been steadily making his mark in the badminton world. His recent victories include defeating veteran Tommy Sugiarto to reach the final. Vimal Kumar believes that Kiran, along with other talented players like Mithun, represents the next generation of badminton players in India who have the potential to replace established senior players like HS Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth.
