Kolkata Police responds to viral claims on bedsheet color in Doctor’s Rape-Murder Case

The Kolkata Police has strongly denied rumors that the color of the bed sheet covering the body of a trainee doctor, who was allegedly raped and murdered, had been changed during the investigation. These claims had been circulating on social media and news channels, causing public outrage and suspicion.

Clear documentation

Deputy Commissioner Indira Mukherjee addressed the media, stating that the police had thoroughly documented the crime scene with photos and videos from the moment they arrived. She confirmed that the bed sheet used to cover the body was blue, as shown in all the records, and that there was no evidence of any green sheet at the scene. Mukherjee added that the police had also seized a red cloth that belonged to the victim, which she had used to cover herself before she fell asleep in the hospital's seminar room.

Victim’s father questions investigation

The victim's father accused the police and hospital authorities of tampering with evidence, claiming that the position of his daughter's body and the color of the sheet had been altered. However, Mukherjee stood by the police’s findings, emphasizing that all documentation clearly showed the bed sheet as blue.

The case, which took place at RG Kar Medical College on August 9, has sparked nationwide protests. The investigation has been closely watched, and the case was transferred to the CBI after a Calcutta High Court order. Adding to the controversy, audio recordings from phone calls made by the hospital to the victim's parents have surfaced, raising questions about the hospital's handling of the situation. The police, however, insist that they never informed the parents of a suicide, and the clips support this claim.
