Vishwas had accused Kejriwal of supporting separatists during the high-voltage campaign.
Kumar Vishwas given ‘Y’ security
According to official sources, the Centre agreed on Saturday to grant Kumar Vishwas, the former leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), ‘Y’ category security through the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
In the wake of Vishwas’ claims against AAP convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the central government evaluated his security and threat perception based on intelligence inputs.
Vishwas will be guarded by four personal security personnel 24 hours a day, seven days a week, under the ‘Y’ security level.
During the high-voltage campaign for the Punjab assembly elections, Vishwas accused Kejriwal of aiding separatists, but the AAP chief refuted the charges.
On Sunday, voters will go to the polls for the Punjab assembly elections.
I didn’t ask for Y category security, and I don’t want it. I have not received any security-related messages from authorities. It is the responsibility of the agencies and the government to consider the safety of their population.”
Vishwas, a founding member of the Aam Aadmi Party, reportedly claimed that Kejriwal had ties to separatists in Punjab and that separatist supporters used to gather at his home for meetings during the last assembly elections.
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi wrote to the Centre after learning of the allegations, requesting an investigation.
Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, informed Channi that the Centre has taken the suspected links between the illegal organisation ‘Sikhs for Justice’ and the AAP seriously and that he would personally ensure that the case is thoroughly investigated.
