Kuthiran's second tunnel is now open to traffic.

The second tunnel on the Thrissur-Palakkad national highway, near Kuthiran, has been opened to traffic. This road began to be used by vehicles travelling from Thrissur to Palakkad. The initial tunnel's two-way traffic will be avoided, and the tunnel will become one-way. A section of the second tunnel is now being opened. The main approach road is still being worked on. 

By the end of April, the government had decided to open the second tunnel to traffic. The national roads authority, on the other hand, ordered that the tunnel be opened in a usable state.

The second tunnel, which is 944 metres long, was built in a fairly short amount of time. On July 31, 2021, the first tunnel was inaugurated. Unlike the previous tunnel, the second tunnel's whole inside is gantry concreted. Semi-circular tunnels run through the Kuthiran.
