Ludhiana's PAU commemorates Youth Day with clothing donations

In a remarkable display of environmental consciousness and community engagement, nearly 500 volunteers from Punjab Agricultural University's (PAU) National Service Scheme (NSS) took part in a Clean and Green Drive. This endeavor was conducted as a part of the International Youth Day celebrations, aligned with the theme "Green skills for youth: Towards a sustainable world." The primary goal was to eliminate plastic usage and implement effective insect-pest and disease management strategies for trees on the PAU campus.

Plastic cleanup and tree care

The students actively participated by collecting plastic waste, aiming to reduce its impact on the environment. Additionally, they demonstrated their commitment to tree care by marking a one-meter radius around the trees. This initiative facilitated improved insect-pest and disease management, fostering the overall health of the campus flora.

Addressing the students, OP Choudhary, the chief guest and PAU librarian, emphasized their pivotal role as future nation-builders. He encouraged them to stay connected with their Indian heritage and contribute to societal well-being by evolving into responsible citizens.

Harmeet Singh Saralch, the NSS program coordinator, played a crucial role in raising awareness among the students about their social responsibilities. He urged them to actively combat social issues such as corruption and communalism, while promoting harmonious relationships with people regardless of caste, color, or creed.

Charitable endeavor: donation drive

Simultaneously, the NSS wing organized a donation drive, aligning with Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s philosophy of “Kirat karo, naam japo ate vand chako” (Engage in honest labor, meditate on the Divine, and share with others). Students exhibited their benevolence by contributing various items such as old clothes, shoes, utensils, blankets, and books to Bharat Vikas Parishad.

The effort was lauded by PK Chhuneja, the chief guest and dean of postgraduate studies, who appreciated the valuable contributions made by the NSS volunteers. The collected items will be distributed across India through Bharat Vikas Parishad, serving those in need.

Pankaj Jindal, the president of Bharat Vikas Parishad, commended the students' heartfelt gesture and provided insights into the organization's welfare initiatives. He highlighted the significance of their donation and elaborated on the diverse programs and activities undertaken by the Parishad.
