Man with Mental Condition Tries to Open Emergency Door on Air France Flight to Bengaluru

A passenger on an Air France flight from Paris to Bengaluru found himself in trouble after attempting to open the rear-left emergency door mid-air. The incident took place four hours before the flight was due to land in Bengaluru at 8 pm on July 15. The airline management filed a complaint against the passenger, identified as Venkat Mohith Achari, a 29-year-old individual from Andhra Pradesh who was traveling alone.

The flight crew immediately reported the incident to the airline management, who, in turn, filed a complaint with the airport police. According to the police, Achari has a mental condition, which was the reason behind his attempt to open the emergency door. It's worth noting that he was not under the influence of alcohol during the incident. Apparently, Achari was traveling to Bengaluru for medical treatment.

The police clarified that all the passengers on board the aircraft were safe and no harm was done due to the prompt actions of the flight crew and authorities. After the incident, Achari was taken to NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences) for treatment.

Legal Consequences

As a result of his actions, Achari faced legal consequences. The airport police booked him under Section 336 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with the punishment for endangering human life or the personal safety of others by acting rashly or negligently. Additionally, he was charged under Section 29 of the Aircraft Rules, 1937.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of mental health awareness, particularly in situations where individuals with mental conditions are traveling.
