Manohar Parrikar's son quits the BJP
Manohar Parrikar's son quits the BJP after being denied a ticket for his father's Goa seat.
"I want to let the people of Panaji decide my political fate," Utpal Parrikar stated. Utpal Parrikar, the son of former Union Minister Manohar Parrikar, has resigned from the BJP after the party declined to provide him a ticket for his father's Panaji constituency in the upcoming Goa assembly elections. Utpal Parrikar announced his candidacy as an Independent candidate, saying that the time has come for him to "take a position for my values." "Even during the past election and this election, I tried my hardest to persuade my party that I had not only the support of all the party members, but also the support of the general people of Panaji," he told reporters this evening. "Despite this, I am unable to get the Panaji constituency's candidature."
It was granted to someone who joined the party on the spur of the moment in the last two years... That is why he stated, "I intend to go ahead and let the people of Panaji decide my political fate." In 2019, Manohar Parrikar, a three-time Goa Chief Minister and the BJP's senior leader in the state, died in office. He was a charismatic and popular politician who served for 25 years in the Panaji seat. His old opponent, Babush Monserrate, is now the party's pick for his constituency over his son.
