Marco Rubio: ‘Hamas must be eradicated’

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio declares: ‘Hamas must be eradicated’

The US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has strongly supported Israel's war against Hamas in Gaza. He met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on Sunday at the start of his regional tour. Rubio said that Hamas must be completely removed because as long as it has power, peace will not be possible.

The ongoing ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is uncertain as both sides have different demands. Netanyahu warned that if Hamas does not release the remaining hostages, the situation will worsen. The ceasefire agreement includes a prisoner exchange, Israeli troop withdrawal, and a long-term truce. However, these details are still under discussion.

Conflict continues in Gaza

On Sunday, the Israeli military carried out an airstrike in southern Gaza, killing three Hamas policemen. Hamas called this attack a serious violation of the ceasefire and accused Israel of trying to disrupt the peace talks.

The situation remains complicated as Netanyahu has signaled that the war could continue if Hamas refuses to surrender. Hamas, however, wants a Palestinian government and rejects any foreign control over Gaza.

Meanwhile, the United States has sent weapons to Israel, showing continued support. The Biden administration had earlier delayed such shipments due to concerns over civilian casualties.

Rubio will also visit Saudi Arabia and the UAE as part of his tour. These countries have rejected the idea of removing Palestinians from Gaza. Egypt and other Arab nations are discussing a new plan to rebuild Gaza without forcing people to leave. However, Israel has opposed giving governance back to Palestinian authorities.

The future of Gaza remains uncertain as both sides refuse to back down.
