Miss Michigan Alma Cooper wins Miss USA 2024 Crown amid organizational controversy

Miss Michigan, Alma Cooper, won the Miss USA 2024 title at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on August 4. Miss Kentucky, Connor Perry, was the runner-up, and Miss Oklahoma, Danika Christopherson, came in as the second runner-up. The event took place against a backdrop of recent controversies within the Miss USA organization.

Resignations and allegations

Earlier this year, Miss USA 2023, Noelia Voigt, and Miss Teen USA, UmaSofia Srivastava, resigned from their titles. Voigt cited mental health issues and a "toxic work environment," including allegations of bullying and harassment. She claimed the Miss USA organization did not provide the support she needed and left her feeling unsafe.

In response, Laylah Rose, president and CEO of Miss USA and Miss Teen USA, denied the allegations. She stated that the claims of harassment and poor management were false and assured that the organization would address such issues if they occurred. Voigt responded by accusing Rose of making inaccurate statements and suggested that Rose should waive a non-disclosure agreement to allow her to speak freely.

Following the resignations, Miss Hawaii, Savannah Gankiewicz, was named Miss USA 2023, and a new titleholder was announced for Miss Teen USA 2023. Rose also mentioned that the Miss USA organization is working with the National Association for Mental Illness (NAMI) to provide contestants with mental health support and resources.
