Mohali MC seals 2 industrial units over tax default

Mohali Municipal Corporation seals two industrial units for unpaid property tax

The Mohali Municipal Corporation (MC) recently took action against defaulters who failed to pay their property taxes. Despite efforts, the MC managed to recover only ₹30.71 crore out of the targeted ₹35 crore for the 2023-24 financial year. In response, the MC intensified its efforts by issuing approximately 2,000 notices to defaulters within six days and initiating a drive to seal properties owned by chronic defaulters.

Sealing of Industrial Units

A team led by MC Superintendent Avtar Singh Kalsi sealed two industrial plots for non-payment of property taxes. One of the sealed units, located on plot C-110 in Phase 7, had accumulated approximately ₹40 lakh in pending property taxes since the financial year 2019-20. Despite repeated warnings and notices, the property owner failed to settle the dues, leading to the enforcement team's action. Similarly, another industrial plot numbered 433A in Phase 9 was sealed due to around ₹50,000 in unpaid taxes from the same period.

Recovery efforts and future plans

The superintendent of Mohali MC expressed confidence in recovering the outstanding amounts promptly and surpassing the set target. The MC's proactive approach includes not only sealing properties of defaulters but also intensifying efforts to collect overdue taxes. With the issuance of notices and initiation of sealing drives targeting chronic defaulters, the MC aims to improve revenue collection and meet its financial targets for the current fiscal year.
