Musical diplomacy: Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann serenades Governor Purohit with 'Challa'

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann breaks ice with Governor Purohit Through musical harmony, croons 'Challa'

In a surprising turn of events, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann extended an olive branch to Governor Banwarilal Purohit during the 'At Home' program at Punjab Raj Bhawan on the 75th Republic Day. The two leaders, who had been at odds for over a year, shared a moment of camaraderie when Mann took the stage and sang the popular Punjabi folk song 'Challa.'

Musical gesture eases tensions

Despite their previous conflicts on various issues, Chief Minister Mann expressed gratitude to the governor after his impromptu performance. This unexpected musical exchange marked Mann's participation in the event, signaling a potential thaw in relations.

The chief minister had skipped similar functions at Raj Bhawan in the past, leading to strained relations. Governor Purohit had previously made remarks about Mann's absence during the 77th Independence Day event, adding a touch of humor by suggesting Mann might be avoiding the ceremonial canons placed outside the Raj Bhawan.

Mann and Purohit had clashed on matters such as vice-chancellor appointments, assembly sessions, and the chief minister's non-attendance at official functions. The governor accused Mann of ignoring letters seeking administrative information, which Mann had playfully labeled as "love letters."

On a lighter note, earlier in the day, CM Mann shared the "good news" of expecting a baby with his wife in March during the Republic Day event in Ludhiana. He encouraged everyone to refrain from gender determination tests and instead wish for a healthy baby without discrimination.
