NCRTC expects 'Namo Bharat' inaugural day ridership to surpass 10,000
The eagerly awaited commercial operations of the 17-kilometer section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor began with excitement among passengers. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) anticipates that ridership on the first day is likely to exceed 10,000.
The inaugural 'Namo Bharat' train journey commenced at 6 am, and passengers demonstrated overwhelming enthusiasm. Some arrived as early as 4.30 am to be part of this historic journey. The excitement drew commuters from nearby areas like Muradnagar, as well as from more distant regions in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
Vinay Kumar Singh, Managing Director of NCRTC, welcomed the first set of passengers on India's first 'Namo Bharat' train. He interacted with passengers on platforms and within the coaches. Those who were part of the first journey received special acknowledgment as the 'First Rider' along with certificates.
Features and technology
'Namo Bharat' trains boast high-tech features and numerous passenger amenities, enhancing the travel experience for passengers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated this section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor, which seeks to redefine regional travel with its swift speed and cutting-edge technology. The RRTS is designed to operate at speeds up to 180 kmph, with the potential operational speed of 160 kmph.

The priority section, from Sahibabad to Duhai Depot, encompasses five stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot. This segment is an integral part of the larger 82.15 km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS project, with a targeted full operational launch by June 2025.
Commuter-friendly features
Each 'Namo Bharat' train consists of six coaches, including one premium coach. A separate coach is reserved for women, adjacent to the premium coach. Additionally, other coaches offer reserved seats for women, individuals with special needs, and senior citizens.
Premium coaches feature distinct features such as reclining seats, coat hooks, magazine holders, and footrests. The entry to the premium-class coach is via a gated premium lounge on the platforms, offering cushioned seating and vending machine facilities.

The one-way journey from Sahibabad to Duhai Depot station on the priority section costs ₹50, while the fare for the same route in a premium-class coach is ₹100.
The NCRTC ensures last-mile connectivity with electric auto-rickshaws under RRTS feeder services. The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) operates an AC electric bus service between Anand Vihar and Sahibabad station, enhancing convenience for passengers.
On the first day of passenger operations, the RRTS Connect App recorded over 2,000 downloads, indicating a positive response from the public. The inauguration of this section signifies a significant milestone in India's pursuit of efficient and modern regional rapid transit.
