Nishad Kumar wins Silver in men's high jump, India’s Paris Paralympics Medal tally hits 7

Nishad Kumar secured a silver medal in the men’s high jump T47 event at the Paris Paralympics. His impressive jump of 2.04 meters was his best this season and contributed to India's overall medal count, which now stands at seven. This was India’s second medal on the day.

Top performers in the event

Nishad’s silver was achieved with a jump of 2.04 meters. Roderick Townsend from the USA won gold with a jump of 2.12 meters, while Georgii Margiev from the Neutral Paralympic Athletes took bronze with a jump of 2.00 meters. Nishad had previously won silver in the Tokyo Paralympics with a jump of 2.06 meters.

Preethi Pal makes history

Earlier, Preethi Pal made history by becoming the first Indian woman track and field athlete to win two medals at the Paralympics. She won bronze in the 200m T35 category with a personal best time of 30.01 seconds. At 23, Preethi is only the second Indian woman to win two medals in a single Paralympics, following shooter Avani Lekhara, who won gold and bronze in Tokyo three years ago.
