BJP MLA Nitesh Rane had claimed he was falsely implicated in the attempt to murder case
Nitesh Rane has surrendered before the court
The son of Union MSME Minister Narayan Rane, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Nitesh Rane, will surrender before the Maharashtra Police on Wednesday, February 2nd, according to his counsel. Nitesh Rane’s bail application in the Bombay High Court has been withdrawn, according to Advocate Satish Maneshinde, with a statement that he will surrender to the Sindhudurg Police. Nitesh Rane, speaking from his residence in Kankavali, Sindhudurg, claimed he was about to submit to the court.
Nitesh Rane, the son of Union Minister Narayan Rane, filed the petition in the High Court on Tuesday after a session court in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district granted him bail, citing the need for his custodial interrogation. The MLA’s lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, told a single bench of Justice CV Bhadang on Wednesday that the petitioner (Nitesh Rane) would like to withdraw the bail application.
“The petitioner wants to cooperate with the investigation and expects to surrender.” Despite the fact that the applicant still has five days of protection from arrest from the Supreme Court, which was awarded to him on January 27,” Mr. Maneshinde stated. The statement was accepted by Justice Bhadang, and the bail application was withdrawn.
Santosh Parab, a Shiv Sena activist, was allegedly attacked while campaigning for the Sindhudurg District Cooperative Bank elections in December 2021. Both the lower court and the High Court had previously dismissed Nitesh Rane’s pre-arrest bail applications. The MLA subsequently went to the Supreme Court, which on January 27 ordered the Maharashtra Police not to arrest him for ten days and ordered him to appear in court in Sindhudurg to seek regular bail.
Rane, along with six others, faces charges under Indian Penal Code sections 307 (attempt to murder), 120B (criminal conspiracy), and 34 (common intention). Amounts ranging from Rs 1 to 1.50 lakh are said to have been paid to carry out the crime. Rane’s anticipatory bail request was dismissed by the Supreme Court on January 27, and he was ordered to surrender and seek ordinary release. For ten days, the Supreme Court shielded him from arrest. The sessions court yesterday not only dismissed the application, calling it “premature” and hence unmaintainable, but also made a few observations on the merits of the case, stating that Rane’s detention was necessary.
According to the complainant, Santosh Parab, a contractor by trade and a member of the ruling alliance’s Shiv Sena Party, he was hit by an Innova car without a registration number plate around 11 a.m. on December 18, 2021, while riding his bike. He fell to the ground, the bike collided with him, and he was dragged for roughly 15 feet, injuring his right hand.
On December 26, 2021, the police arrested the sixth accused, Sachin Satpute from Delhi, who allegedly revealed Rane’s role in the case, after five other suspects were caught on other days in the same month.
The plot was devised on August 28, 2021, in a meeting inside a vanity van, according to the prosecution. According to reports, Rane warned Satpute that Parab was spreading rumours about Rane and his family among his supporters, and that he should be punished. Satpute “offered the assignment” to co-accused Dheeraj Jadhao, who then hired the other accused.
