Dominance in key categories

"Oppenheimer" swept major categories, clinching Best Picture, Best Director for Christopher Nolan, and Best Actor for Cillian Murphy. Robert Downey Jr. also secured his first Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. The film also triumphed in technical categories like Best Film Editing, Best Sound, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Score.

The film's triumph was widely expected, given its dominance throughout the awards season. With wins at the BAFTAs, Critics Choice Awards, and Golden Globes, "Oppenheimer" had been a frontrunner since its multiple nominations were announced over a month ago. It garnered a total of 13 nods, solidifying its position as a top contender.

Additionally, "Barbie" lost in the Best Picture category to "Oppenheimer." Both films debuted on the same day, July 21, showcasing diverse cinematic achievements.
