Paralympics 2024, day 2: Avani Lekhara defends Gold, Manish clinches Silver as India secures four Medals

India had a memorable day at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, much like August 30 three years ago in Tokyo. Avani Lekhara, who made history as the first Indian female athlete to win a Paralympic gold, repeated her success by defending her title in the 10m rifle event. Alongside her, Mona Agarwal also shined by securing a bronze medal in the same event.

Manish Narwal continued his impressive performance from Tokyo, where he won gold in the 50m pistol event. This time, he earned a silver medal in the 10m pistol at Paris, further adding to India's medal tally.

Preeti Pal's historic sprint

In Para Athletics, Preeti Pal made history by becoming the first Indian to win a bronze in a track race at the Paralympics. She achieved a Personal Best in the Women’s 100m T35 event, marking a significant milestone for Indian athletics.

In Para badminton, Suhas Yathiraj (SL4) and Thulasimathi Murugesan (SU5) lived up to expectations as top seeds, successfully qualifying for the knockout rounds in their respective categories.

Meanwhile, in Para archery, Rakesh Kumar displayed resilience by reaching the round of 16 in the men’s compound individual event, despite competing in torrential rain. Sarita also advanced by winning her round of 32 match.

India’s strong performance across multiple sports on this day highlighted the dedication and skill of its Paralympians, making it a day to remember at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
