Pixar's Elemental arrives on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar with exclusive content

Pixar's latest animated film, "Elemental," is set to make its streaming debut on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar on Wednesday, September 13. The film, which explores a vibrant city inhabited by anthropomorphic representations of nature, had a slightly delayed theatrical release in India on June 23. While it premiered in the US and other regions on June 16, the Indian audience had to wait an extra week. Notably, this release comes just one day short of Disney's standard 90-day window for new movies, a strategy to boost theater attendance and video-on-demand (VoD) sales. Some theaters in India are still screening "Elemental."

Streaming availability in India

In India, "Elemental" will be available in only two languages: English and Hindi. This limited language offering continues Disney's trend of favoring extensive localization for films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe or those of monumental significance, like "Avatar: The Way of Water." Previously, animated films had a 30-day window before hitting streaming services, but this window has significantly expanded across Disney's entire catalog, irrespective of box office performance. "Elemental" has globally grossed an impressive $480.2 million (approximately Rs. 3,995 crore) and ranks as the ninth-highest-grossing film of the year. This achievement comes despite mixed reviews, with praise for its visuals but criticism for its narrative.

Exploring Elemental

"Elemental" introduces viewers to Elemental City, a whimsical subway hub where humanoid representations of fire, water, land, and earth coexist, albeit uneasily. The narrative primarily focuses on the budding relationship between Ember, a fiery young woman, and Wade, a laid-back individual symbolizing the liquid element. The film vividly portrays the incompatibility of these elements and uses this dynamic as a metaphor for racial tension, conveyed through charming anthropomorphic characters.

Bonus content

On September 13, alongside the main feature, viewers can also enjoy exclusive content related to "Elemental." "Good Chemistry: The Story of Elemental" offers an in-depth look behind the scenes, while the animated short film "Carl's Date," based on 2009's "Up," adds extra entertainment. "Carl's Date" follows the elderly Carl Fredricksen as he reluctantly embarks on a date at the urging of his dog, Dug. This heartwarming short film, featuring one of Ed Asner's final performances before his passing in 2021, was initially screened in theaters alongside "Elemental."
