PM Modi inaugurates Agra Metro virtually, surpassing schedule by 9 months; Yogi Adityanath boards first ride
The Agra Metro project was inaugurated virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, surpassing expectations by nine months. The event was held from Kolkata, marking the sixth metro system in Uttar Pradesh. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Agra Metro in person, taking its maiden ride from Taj Mahal Metro Station to Taj Mahal Eastern Gate.
Efficient construction timeline
The construction of the priority underground section, initially set for 32 months, was completed in just 23 months, demonstrating exceptional efficiency. PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the Agra Metro on December 7, 2020.
Within two years, the Agra Metro's first 6 km, comprising three elevated and three underground stations, were completed. This accomplishment positions Uttar Pradesh as the first state in India with metro services in most of its cities.

Public commendation and celebrations
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised the Uttar Pradesh Metro Corporation's dedication to the Agra Metro project. He emphasized the significance of timely completion and high-quality work. Agra Metro, alongside Kanpur and Lucknow metros, reflects public trust in infrastructure projects.
Agra's significance as one of the oldest cities in the state, steeped in historical importance, is highlighted. Adityanath expressed gratitude to PM Modi for selecting Agra for the metro initiative, aligning with other ongoing developments such as the city's airport and civil terminal projects.
Excitement and participation
Thirty-two students from Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 were selected to ride the inaugural metro train, symbolizing excitement and local engagement with the project. Union ministers, local MPs, MLAs, and public representatives attended the inauguration ceremony, marking a significant moment for Agra's transportation infrastructure.
