PM Modi likely to reply on motion of thanks in Rajya Sabha today
PM Modi will respond to a Motion of Thanks
In Rajya Sabha today at roughly 11 a.m., Prime Minister Narendra Modi will respond to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address to both houses at the start of the session. The house will discuss the budget once he responds.
On Monday, he responded to a vote of gratitude in the Lok Sabha, in which he praised the President for emphasising ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India). Moving towards self-reliance in the defence industry, he added, is a duty to the country, and India wants to become a major supplier of defence equipment.
The Prime Minister went on to criticise the former ruling party’s Congress for raising concerns about inflation and economic policy. The Prime Minister stated that formerly, the country was reliant on foreign technologies to purchase defence equipment, which resulted in a lengthy wait before any equipment could be purchased.
The procedures have been simplified. We have attempted to resolve matters that have been outstanding for years. Previously, we had to seek to other nations for contemporary technology, and acquisitions were sometimes made in a rush. We were also reliant on third parties for spare parts. We cannot safeguard the country’s security if we continue reliant on outsiders. We should be able to rely on ourselves. Being self-sufficient in the defence industry is a question of national service. Apart from meeting the country’s demands, we are pursuing our ambition of being a major defence exporter. “I am confident that it will be achieved,” the Prime Minister stated.
He further claimed that “several vested interests" were involved in the defence procurement process and that bribes were used. I’ve questioned them, and it’s only natural that they’re angry, which is reflected in their behaviour.”
He continued his attack on Congress by claiming that the party uses a divide-and-rule strategy. Is it not fulfilling Mahatma Gandhi’s dreams if his government is talking about being loud for locals, he asked? “Why, therefore, was it mocked by the opposition?” he enquired.
Modi highlighted many of his government’s accomplishments in his roughly 100-minute address, including stalled projects that were just completed and a rise in startup activity in India. He also questioned the opposition on a variety of issues, ranging from covid-19 to inflation during the Congress administration.
