Mason Greenwood will not train or play matches until further notice
Police granted bail to the Manchester United striker
Mason Greenwood, a Manchester United footballer, has been released on bail pending further inquiry. Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault on Sunday after a woman alleging violent occurrences shared photos and videos on social media.
On Monday, police were given more time to question the 20-year-old, and he was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and making threats to kill.
Greenwood was released on bail by Greater Manchester Police on Wednesday, awaiting further investigation. “A 20-year-old guy arrested on suspicion of rape and assault of a lady has been released on bail pending further investigation,” according to the statement.
Following the initial claims, Greenwood was barred from playing or training with Manchester United. On Sunday morning, the allegations, which included video, images, and a voice note purporting to be a discussion between Greenwood and the lady, were posted on Instagram. They’ve been removed since then.
Manchester United also stated that they “absolutely not condone any form of violence. We are aware of photographs and claims circulating on social media,” Manchester United said in a statement. We will not make any additional statements until the facts are known. Violence of any type is not tolerated at Manchester United. Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice,” Manchester United added afterwards.
The allegations were made public on Instagram on Sunday morning, with videos, photos, and a voice note purporting to be a discussion between Greenwood and the woman. They’ve been removed since then.
Sexual offender complainants are not allowed to be recognized, and their privacy is guaranteed for the rest of their lives.
Greenwood debuted for Manchester United in 2019 and has since made 129 appearances for the club. In 2020, he made his professional England debut.
Following his initial arrest, the striker from Bradford was removed from versions of the FIFA 22 game after Nike suspended his contract with him.
“Mason Greenwood has been removed from active squads in FIFA 22 and has also been suspended from appearing in FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) packs and Ultimate Draft,” a representative for the game’s publisher, Electronic Arts, stated.
“We are profoundly concerned by the alarming claims and will continue to closely monitor the situation,” Nike said before.
Manchester United is letting fans who bought shirts with Greenwood’s name on them to exchange them for another shirt with a different name.
