Recent polls suggest Kamala Harris may have a better chance of beating Donald Trump than Joe Biden. With Biden endorsing Harris and stepping down from the race, the Vice President is gaining significant support from top Democratic donors and the public. This shift in support is reshaping the landscape of the upcoming election.
Harris's polling numbers
Although there isn't a new poll specifically showing Biden’s exit, surveys from after Biden’s debate performance indicate that Harris’s numbers are comparable to or slightly better than Biden's against Trump. Some polls even show Harris leading Trump. For instance, a recent Fox News survey showed Trump leading by just one point over both Biden and Harris, with Trump at 49% and Harris at 48%.
Recent polls show varied results. A CBS/YouGov poll last week had Trump ahead of Harris by three points (51%-48%), while Biden trailed Trump by five points (52%-47%). Conversely, an Economist/YouGov poll suggested Biden would lose to Trump by a small margin, and Harris would fare even worse.
Harris’s strengths
Harris's appeal is particularly strong among Black voters, where she leads Trump by 64 points in some polls, compared to Biden’s 57-point lead. In Pennsylvania and Virginia, Harris edged out Biden by two points among likely voters. A recent poll by Forbes also shows Harris leading Trump by 42% to 41%, with a margin of error of 3.1%.
Despite Biden’s endorsement and Harris’s growing support, Trump still maintains a competitive position in several key polls.
