Punjab's CM’s nephew’s residence raided by the ED.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided ten different locations belonging to Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi's nephew Bhupinder Singh Honey on Tuesday morning, just weeks before the assembly elections, in connection with a Prevention of Money Laundering case involving illegal sand mining in Punjab.
According to a source, the ED team executed the initial raid at Honey's Homeland Heights home early Tuesday morning. No one was permitted to leave the premises. Various documents and computers were being scanned by the ED.
According to the source, the ED was conducting raids in ten places throughout Punjab in connection with an illegal sand mining case.
Punjab's political parties had previously accused the Chief Minister of unlawful mining in his own constituency. Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi chief minister, has tweeted multiple times about the ongoing illegal sand mining enterprise. He said that Punjab Chief Minister Channi was doing nothing to stop it.
The case was already being investigated by the local police department. The ED launched a money laundering investigation based on the local police investigation.
The ED has yet to issue a statement regarding the ongoing raids. According to the sources, the probe agency will issue a statement only after the raids are completed.
During the raid, the ED took statements from people who were present at Honey's house, the Chief Minister's nephew.
A large crowd had formed outside the residence, prompting local police to be dispatched to prevent any unexpected incidents. The investigation into the matter is continuing.
