AAP stages protests across Punjab in response to Sanjay Singh's arrest

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, including cabinet ministers, MLAs, and party officials, have organized widespread protests throughout the state to denounce what they view as the "dictatorial step" taken by the Modi government at the Center. These protests were triggered by the arrest of AAP leader and Rajya Sabha member, Sanjay Singh.

Leaders and representatives from AAP have united to express their dissent against the government's actions. They contend that the arrest of Sanjay Singh, a prominent AAP member, was a result of his vocal criticism of the government within Parliament.

Prominent demonstrations

The protests spanned various regions in Punjab, with notable figures participating in each location. In Nakodar, local MP Shushil Kumar Rinku, cabinet minister Balkar Singh, MLAs Raman Arora, Sheetal Angural, and Inderjit Kaur Mann were among those who voiced their opposition. Similar demonstrations occurred in different cities, with Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak leading the protest in Pathankot, Harbhajan Singh ETO and Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal in Amritsar, and Meet Hayer in Barnala.

Claims of intimidation

Budh Ram, the AAP Punjab working president, alleged that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) failed to uncover any incriminating evidence or financial irregularities at Sanjay Singh's residence. He asserted that these actions were designed to intimidate and silence the AAP leadership, rather than addressing any legitimate concerns. According to Ram, no illegal documents or funds were found in Sanjay Singh's house, rendering the arrest unwarranted in the eyes of the party.
