Four robbers attempted to burglarize Punjab and Sind Bank on Tajpur Road during the early hours but were unsuccessful after a vigilant resident raised the alarm. The incident, captured on CCTV, revealed the perpetrators spending around half an hour inside the bank trying to force open the safe using tools.
Resident's timely alert thwarts robbery attempt
The four individuals, with two stationed outside and two breaking in after damaging the bank's shutter, went unnoticed by the bank's alarm system. However, Gurdeep Mangat, the sarpanch of Mundian Khurd, residing nearby, heard suspicious noises, prompting him to investigate. Upon observing the open bank shutter and the robbers, he quickly raised the alarm.

Branch manager Priya, informed by locals, rushed to the scene and promptly alerted the police. Despite the attempted sabotage of an external CCTV camera, the criminals were captured on an internal camera.
Police investigation and security lapses
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP, rural), Jaskiranjit Singh Teja, assured that the police have obtained CCTV footage and are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the culprits. However, concerns have been raised about the bank's security, as the alarm system failed to activate when the robbers entered, indicating a significant security lapse. Additionally, the absence of a night duty security guard further highlighted vulnerabilities in the bank's security measures. Authorities are working to address these shortcomings and ensure enhanced security for financial institutions in the area.
