Rahul Gandhi accuses PM Modi of favoring Adani, blames BJP for spreading division

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has intensified his criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of showing favoritism towards billionaire Gautam Adani. During a public meeting in Wayanad, Gandhi questioned the government’s inaction against Adani, who was recently implicated in an alleged bribery case by US prosecutors. His remarks have added to growing demands from Congress and other opposition parties for stringent measures against the industrialist.

Accusations of favoritism

Speaking in Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi accused PM Modi of treating Gautam Adani "differently" from other citizens, undermining the principle of equality enshrined in the Indian Constitution. Referring to Adani’s indictment in the United States, Gandhi claimed that the Prime Minister was shielding the billionaire from legal consequences in India.

"The Constitution says that all people should be treated equally," said Gandhi. "But Prime Minister Modi says Adani will be treated differently. It doesn’t matter if Adani is called a criminal in the United States; in India, he will remain protected."

Gandhi’s statement echoes the opposition's call for immediate government action against Adani, highlighting allegations of corruption and favoritism. The Congress leader argued that such practices threaten the integrity of India’s democratic institutions.

In his broader critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rahul Gandhi accused the ruling party of fostering hatred and division in society. Contrasting Congress’s approach with BJP’s alleged divisive tactics, Gandhi said, "We talk about love, affection, and unity. They talk about hatred, anger, and violence."

Highlighting the challenges faced by the opposition, Gandhi pointed out the vast resources at BJP’s disposal, including control over government agencies and media. However, he expressed confidence in the people's support, asserting that public sentiment would eventually prevail over BJP’s ideology.

“We don’t have the media, intelligence agencies, or financial power. All we have is the support of the people, and that is enough,” Gandhi said, reiterating his belief in defeating the BJP’s divisive narrative.

Priyanka Gandhi’s new role

During the event, Rahul Gandhi introduced his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, as the newly elected Member of Parliament from Wayanad. Reflecting on her political journey, he said, "Five years ago, I stood before you as your MP. Today, my sister takes the same pledge in service of the people of Wayanad."

Gandhi attributed Priyanka’s election victory to the trust and support of the constituency’s people. He expressed his gratitude and emphasized their shared commitment to fulfilling the expectations of their voters.

The Congress and other opposition parties have demanded stringent action against Gautam Adani, accusing the government of shielding him from accountability. They argue that the alleged bribery case in the US highlights deeper issues of corruption and favoritism within India’s governance framework.
