Ravidas Jayanti: PM Modi says Sant Ravidas's life's an inspiration
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed Sant Ravidas. Ahead of the mystic poet’s birth anniversary, saying he committed his life to eliminating evil traditions like casteism and untouchability.
In every step and scheme, Modi says, his government has incorporated the spirit of Guru Ravidas. On the occasion of Ravidas Jayanti on Wednesday, the prime minister said he will pray for people’s welfare at the ‘Shri Guru Ravidas Vishram Dham Mandir’ in Karol Bagh at 9 a.m.
“Tomorrow is the birth anniversary of the great saint Guru Ravidas ji. The way he dedicated his life to eliminating evil practices such as casteism and untouchability from society, even today he is inspiring all of us,” he tweeted.
“On this occasion, I am reminded of some things about the holy place of Sant Ravidas ji. In 2016 and 2019, I had the privilege of paying obeisance there and having ‘langar’. As an MP, I had decided that no shortcoming would be allowed in the development work of this pilgrimage site,” the prime minister said in a series of tweets in Hindi.
From Varanasi, he was elected to the Lok Sabha. Modi stated that he is proud to say that his government has infused Guru Ravidas’ spirit into all of its actions and plans. Not only that, but the construction of a memorial in his honour in Varanasi is continuing smoothly, according to the prime minister.
Who was Sant Ravidas?
Shri Guru Sant Ravidas Ji was a prominent Indian saint, philosopher, poet, social reformer, and God devotee in the 15th century. He was a renowned leader of the North Indian Bhakti movement and one of the most well-known and leading stars of the nirguna sampradaya (sant parampara). Through his tremendous works of poetry, he had conveyed a range of spiritual and social themes to his lovers, followers, and society at large, encouraging them to reform their thoughts and demonstrate their everlasting love for God.
In order to meet people’s social and spiritual demands, he was like a messiah. He was a spiritually wealthy individual who was also loved by others. They used to listen to him and recite his magnificent songs, Padas, and other religious texts every morning and evening, as well as on his birthday anniversary celebrations and other religious festivals. For his Bhakti movement and devotional songs, he is liked and respected all across the world, although the most respected regions are Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Maharashtra.
Sant Ravidas Ji was born in the 15th century in the Seer Goverdhanpur village, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India, to Kalsa Devi Ji and Baba Santokh Dass Ji of the Harijan caste.
Sant Ravidas Jayanti or birthday anniversary is celebrated every year on Magh Purnima on full moon day of Magh month with great enthusiasm and happiness all over India however; people in Varanasi celebrate this occasion like a memorable event and festival.
Sant Guru Ravidas Ji was the spiritual Guru of Meera Bai, the queen of Chittoor and the daughter of one of Rajasthan’s most famous kings, Rao Dudaji. Guru Ravidass Ji’s teachings had a profound effect on her, and she became a dedicated devotee of his. Meera Bai has penned a poem in honour of the Guru, “Guru Milyaa Ravidas Ji…”
Her parents (the king and queen of Rajasthan) had only one daughter, who eventually became the queen of Chittoor. Her mother died when she was a youngster, and she was raised by her grandparents, one of whom was a devotee of Guru Ravidas Ji. She met Guru Ji with her grandfather several times and was greatly affected by him.
It will be (645th) Sant Ravidas Jayanti in 2022 and will be celebrated on 16th of February.
