Saif Ali Khan stabbing case: how Railway Police tracked suspect on train

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) detained a suspect in connection with the stabbing of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. The arrest occurred on Saturday in Chhattisgarh's Durg district. The suspect, identified as Akash Kanojia, was travelling on the Jnaneswari Express train when apprehended. The Mumbai police had shared vital information, including a photograph and mobile tower location, which led to his capture.

Munawar Khursheed, Inspector General (IG) of the RPF South East Central Railway (SECR) Zone in Bilaspur, stated that the Mumbai police provided details about the suspect's movements. Acting swiftly, the RPF detained Kanojia from the general coach of the train. Khursheed confirmed that Kanojia, aged around 32-33 years, will be handed over to the Mumbai police for further investigation.

Sanjay Sinha, RPF in-charge at Durg, explained how they located the suspect. "We received a photo and tower location of the suspect from Mumbai police. Based on this information, we conducted a search in the general coach of the train. Using a video call, the Mumbai police confirmed his identity. The suspect has been detained and will undergo further interrogation by the Mumbai police," Sinha said.

What led to the investigation?

The case originated from an incident at Saif Ali Khan's residence early Thursday morning. An intruder broke into the actor’s house, threatening his children and household staff. Upon hearing the disturbance, Khan confronted the intruder. During the altercation, the actor was stabbed six times. Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai, where he received treatment. He is currently out of danger and is expected to be discharged in the coming days.

CCTV footage from the residence captured the intruder’s actions, both as he entered and fled the building. Mumbai police responded quickly by forming over 20 teams to locate the culprit. The arrest of Akash Kanojia marks a significant breakthrough in the case. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
