SBI ordered to disclose Electoral bond donors

Supreme Court orders SBI to disclose Electoral bond donor details

The Supreme Court has directed the State Bank of India (SBI) to provide details of electoral bond donors to the Election Commission of India (EC) by March 12. 

Non-Compliance rebuked and deadline set

Dismissing SBI's request for an extension, the court emphasized the availability of the information and warned of consequences for non-compliance.The five-judge bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud criticized SBI for disobeying its previous order to submit electoral bond purchase details to the EC by March 6. The court instructed SBI to disclose the information by the end of March 12, with the EC required to publish it on its website by March 15.

SBI's delay and court's response

SBI's plea for an extension till June 30 was rebuffed by the bench, highlighting the urgency of the matter. The court underscored the clarity of its earlier judgment and instructed SBI to provide a straightforward disclosure of donor details. The bench dismissed a contempt petition against SBI filed by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
