The Supreme Court has asked senior Army officials from the Western Command and the NHAI project director to be present for a hearing on March 20. The case involves a dispute over land acquisition for the Ambala ring road project in Haryana. The court wants to discuss the matter in private because it also concerns national security.
Land acquisition challenge
The case was brought by Vinod Kumar Sharma, who challenged an August 2023 order from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The high court had dismissed several petitions against the land acquisition for the project. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre and NHAI, stated that only a part of Sharma’s land would be taken for the project.
The Supreme Court will now review the matter and hear from the officials involved before making a decision.
