Mohali Court rejects singer Sippy Gill's anticipatory bail plea in assault case

An additional sessions judge, Harsimranjit Singh, has denied anticipatory bail to Punjabi singer Sandeep Singh Gill, widely known as Sippy Gill. Gill was facing allegations of assaulting a property dealer and threatening him with a gun outside a café near Homeland in Mohali on October 19.

In his ruling, the judge highlighted the severity of the crime and the gravity of the offense, stating that custodial interrogation is essential for further investigation. As a result, Sippy Gill was not granted the concession of anticipatory bail.

Incident details

The complainant, Kamaljit Singh Shergill, a resident of Jalandhar staying in Homeland, recounted the incident to the police. Shergill had gone to a café near his residence to meet a friend on the fateful day. After the meeting, as he was about to leave around 6.45pm, he noticed Sippy Gill's brother-in-law, Sunny Sekhon, and a person named Honey Khan waiting near his car.

Initially, they appeared friendly, but the situation escalated when Sippy Gill himself arrived. The trio persuaded Shergill to walk with them to another parked car. There, they began to assault him, and one of them even pointed a gun at his chest. The situation further worsened when seven more individuals joined in and also assaulted Shergill.

Legal actions taken

Based on Shergill's complaint, Mataur Police filed charges against Sippy Gill, Sunny Sekhon, Honey Khan, and other unidentified individuals. They were charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including voluntarily causing hurt, punishment for wrongful restraint, and rioting with a deadly weapon. Sections of the Arms Act were also invoked in the case.
