Despite turning off comments on their Instagram profiles to avoid negative comments, they are aware of the criticism for their inter-faith marriage. On Tuesday, Sonakshi responded subtly to the haters, emphasizing that love is what truly matters.
She commented on an artist's Instagram post that featured artwork of the newly-married couple in wedding reception attire. The post's caption read, “Love is the universal religion. Wishing @aslisona @iamzahero a happy life.” Sonakshi replied, “Truest words!! This is adorable. Thank you.” This gentle response highlighted her belief in love’s power to transcend all barriers.
Wedding details and public reactions
Sonakshi and Zaheer had a civil marriage at her home on Sunday, with close family members in attendance, including her parents, Shatrughan and Poonam Sinha, and Zaheer’s parents. They later hosted a party for friends and family at a Mumbai restaurant. Notable guests included Salman Khan, Rekha, Kajol, and Raveena Tandon.

In their joint Instagram post, the couple shared photos from their reception, disabling comments to avoid further hate. Their caption expressed their joy and gratitude for the support and love they received. “What a day! The love, the laughter, the togetherness, the excitement, the warmth, the support from every one of our friends, families and teams...” they wrote.
They continued, “It was like the universe came together for two people in love to give them exactly what they've always hoped, wished and prayed for. If this is not divine intervention... we don't know what is. We are both truly blessed to have each other, and so much love protecting us.”
Sonakshi and Zaheer’s inter-faith marriage has drawn mixed reactions. Some praised their union, pointing out that other inter-faith couples like Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan, and Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, have been accepted without issue. Others echoed the sentiment that humanity and love should be the ultimate goal. Despite the challenges, Sonakshi and Zaheer remain focused on their love and commitment to each other.
