Heavy Debris Poses Safety Threat, Commuters Stranded in Uttarkashi due to Road Blockages from Heavy Rains

On Saturday, more than 150 students were successfully rescued by the Uttarakhand State Response Force personnel in Uttarkashi. The students had been trapped inside Kasturba Inter College due to heavy debris that posed a serious threat to their safety.

The Uttarkashi Disaster Management immediately sought help from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) when they became aware of the situation on Thursday. Acting swiftly, the SDRF team, led by Commandant Manikant Mishra, rushed to the area equipped with rescue gear.

During the night, all the trapped students were safely evacuated by the diligent efforts of the SDRF rescue team. They were taken to a secure location, away from the danger.

In addition to the students, the SDRF team also moved people from nearby commercial establishments, hotels, shops, and houses to safety.

However, the situation has caused disruptions for commuters, including tourists and locals, as the Yamunotri National Highway became blocked due to falling debris near Gangnani. Similar issues were observed on the Badrinath National Highway near Chamoli district, where falling debris from heavy rainfall blocked the road in multiple locations.

The Uttarakhand Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rains in some areas, including Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Tehri, Pauri, and Nainital, for the next 24 hours.
