Suresh Raina endorses Kishan's potential as opener

Suresh Raina endorses Ishan Kishan's potential as opener for Team India

Former cricketer Suresh Raina has voiced his support for the idea of Ishan Kishan opening for Team India. Raina highlighted Kishan's admirable character and his ability to foster a positive team environment, drawing parallels with the injured Rishabh Pant. This endorsement comes as Kishan impressed with a mature innings of 82 while batting at No. 5 in the recent rained-out Asia Cup match against Pakistan in Pallekele on September 2.

Kishan's versatility

While Kishan has demonstrated his prowess as a wicketkeeper-batsman, he also offers flexibility by being an opener for his state team Jharkhand and his IPL franchise, the Mumbai Indians. This adaptability opens up opportunities for him to bat at the top of the order for the Indian national team.

Raina's connection with Kishan

Suresh Raina, a former India and Chennai Super Kings left-hander, shared his experience of playing alongside Ishan Kishan during their time together at the now-defunct IPL franchise, Gujarat Lions, in 2016 and 2017.

Kishan's positive influence

Recalling their shared journey, Raina reminisced about Kishan's ability to bring camaraderie and team spirit to the squad. He cited an instance where he suggested to Aaron Finch that if certain players weren't available, Kishan should open the batting. Raina was willing to bat at No. 3, leaving the rest of the batting order to be decided. Raina also praised Kishan's intent and aggression, highlighting a match where the young cricketer hit several sixes against the Mumbai Indians in Rajkot.
