TDK eyes Haryana for iPhone Battery Plant pending approval

TDK, Apple vendor, plans iPhone Battery Plant in Haryana, awaits clearance

Japanese company TDK, a key supplier to Apple, is gearing up to establish a lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility in Manesar, Haryana. The move is expected to significantly contribute to the production of #MadeInIndia iPhones, fostering local job creation and domestic value addition.

Investment and employment projections

TDK plans to invest between ₹6,000-7,000 crore in phased development, aiming to employ 7,000-8,000 individuals upon reaching full-scale operational capacity. The proposed 180-acre facility in Manesar is poised to become a hub for producing lithium-ion cells, crucial components for Apple's devices.

Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, shared the news on Twitter, highlighting the positive impact on job creation and the local economy. However, TDK awaits environmental clearance before commencing production.

Enhancing local value addition

The local production of lithium-ion battery cells is expected to boost the domestic value addition in Apple's product lineup. TDK's move aligns with Apple's broader strategy of strengthening its supply chain and manufacturing capabilities in India.

TDK had acquired China-based lithium-ion battery manufacturer Amperex Technology Ltd (ATL) in 2005, reinforcing its presence in the energy sector. ATL's Indian subsidiary, Navitasys India Private Limited, previously operated in Bawal, Haryana, focusing on the manufacturing and sale of rechargeable battery packages.

This significant development underscores the growing prominence of India in the global electronics manufacturing landscape, with Apple's supply chain expanding and diversifying within the country.
