Tewari: Chandigarh's woes linked to 'Undemocratic' Administration

Manish Tewari blames Administration's 'Undemocratic' approach for Chandigarh's issues

Manish Tewari, the Member of Parliament from Chandigarh, has criticized the city administration, blaming its "undemocratic attitude" for many of the city’s issues. Speaking at a meeting held at the Congress Bhawan in Sector 35 on Saturday, Tewari shared his concerns about the administration's style of functioning and decision-making, which he said were not inclusive or democratic.

The meeting, attended by senior members of the Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee, aimed to assess the municipal corporation’s efficiency in managing civic affairs. Tewari expressed his commitment to breaking what he called the "bureaucratic inertia" that has slowed progress in Chandigarh. He assured the residents that he would continue to work until the administration’s actions better reflected the needs and aspirations of the people.

Congress’ plans and commitment to change

Tewari reaffirmed the Congress party’s dedication to fulfilling its election promises and called on party members to work tirelessly for the welfare of the city. HS Lucky, the president of the local Congress unit, highlighted the importance of strengthening booth-level committees to engage more residents in party initiatives.

Lucky also urged people to support the Congress party in opposing the privatization of the city’s electricity department, an issue that has sparked widespread concern among residents. He emphasized that the party’s local councillors are capable of effectively representing the people and addressing their grievances.

In a show of unity and strategic planning, senior Congress leaders authorized Tewari and Lucky to collaborate with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), their INDIA bloc partner, in selecting candidates for upcoming mayoral elections. This partnership, they believe, will strengthen their position and help in achieving their goals for the city.

Through these efforts, the Congress party aims to address the challenges faced by Chandigarh residents and push for more transparent and democratic governance.
