The PM, does not know the situation after WWII: Rahul Gandhi
The PM, according to Rahul Gandhi, does not know the situation after WWII.
Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of distracting the people of Goa from serious issues like the environment and employment by saying that if Jawaharlal Nehru desired, Goa could have been liberated "within hours" when India gained independence in 1947.
Mr Gandhi claimed that the Prime Minister is unaware of the context at the time and what happened after WWII.
PM Modi said it took the Congress government 15 years to free Goa from Portuguese control during an electoral rally in Mapusa near Panaji on Thursday, ahead of the February 14 assembly elections.
Mr Gandhi, speaking at a press conference in Margao, said, "PM has no understanding of the history of those times, nor of what happened after World War II. He's coming to Goa to divert attention away from more pressing issues such as the environment and employment."
Mr Gandhi refused to comment on the heated debate over the 'hijab,' saying he would not engage in any discussion that would divert attention away from the people of Goa.
He stated, "My objective is to focus on what is vital for the people of Goa."
Mr Gandhi, who is in Goa for a day, predicted that the Congress will win the majority of seats and that no post-election alliances would be necessary.
"Congress will win a majority and act quickly to ensure that Goa has a government," he said.
