Answers: 

1) Tamil Nadu - The Government of Tamil Nadu has framed a draft policy for senior citizens, acknowledging the State’s demographic transition.

The policy also proposes to create a Directorate for the Welfare of Senior Citizens. The draft document is based on Article 41 of the Constitution, which requires the State ‘to secure the right to work, education and to public assistance in cases of unemployment, old age, sickness and disablement’.

2) Third - India women’s hockey team have won bronze medal after beating former champions China. Though Savita Punia-led missed to defend their Asia Cup title, they returned with bronze. 

3) North Korea - North Korea has confirmed that it fired a Hwasong-12 mid-range ballistic missile. This is the first time it has tested a weapon of that size since 2017.

Japan and South Korea detected the launch of the intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM), which is the seventh weapons test done by North Korea this month. 

4) Italy - Italian President Sergio Mattarella has been elected to a second term in the recent round of elections.

Mattarella was reconfirmed with a broad majority, in the voting done by lawmakers and regional representatives. The 80-year old Jurist-Academic has been serving as the country’s President since 2015.

5) Rafael Nadal - Ace Tennis player Rafael Nadal created history as he won a historic 21st Grand Slam title, defeating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final of the Australian Open.

The Spaniard became the first male tennis player to win 21 Grand Slam titles. He went ahead of Switzerland’s Roger Federer and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic-both tied at 20 each. Australian retired tennis player Margaret Court won 24 Grand Slam women’s singles titles.
