Tragic Incident at Kharar: Chandigarh University Student Fatally Shot by Masked Assailants

A horrifying incident occurred at Bhagomajra, Kharar, where two masked assailants shot dead a 21-year-old student of Chandigarh University, Anuj Kumar. The incident took place on Sunday evening when the assailants knocked on the door of Anuj's rented accommodation. Another student, Praneet Sharma, who was visiting Anuj, also suffered a bullet injury in his left knee during the crossfire. Fortunately, two other friends present in the room managed to escape unharmed.

Anuj, a final-year student of computer science engineering at Chandigarh University, was from Bhiwani, Haryana. Praneet, a third-year student of the same course, hailed from Nagali village, Solan, Himachal Pradesh. He is currently receiving treatment at PGIMER, Chandigarh, and his condition is stable enough to provide a statement to the police.

According to Praneet's account, two masked men arrived at around 11 pm and asked for Anuj. One of them immediately fired multiple shots at Anuj and Praneet, injuring them severely. The shooters fled the scene after the attack. Anuj succumbed to his injuries and was declared brought dead at Kharar civil hospital, while Praneet was later transferred to PGIMER.

The police are actively investigating the case and are yet to identify the shooters. They are looking into all possible angles, including any past rivalries that may have led to the murder. The deceased's family has arrived from Bhiwani, and their statements are yet to be recorded. Police believe they have strong leads and are confident of apprehending the assailants soon.

It's worth noting that Anuj had been involved in a brawl outside a restaurant in Mohali several months ago, and police are also investigating if this incident could be linked to the tragic shooting. As the investigation continues, the Kharar City police have booked the shooters under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act.

Called father 20 minutes before attack

Rajesh Kumar, a government school teacher in Bhiwani and Anuj's father, revealed that he had spoken to his son just 20 minutes before the tragic incident.

After the conversation, Rajesh went to sleep but was later awakened by a call from one of Anuj's friends, who informed him about the unfortunate event. Rajesh and his relatives rushed to Kharar, only to discover that Anuj had been murdered.

The grieving father is now left with the painful memory of his last conversation with his son. Anuj is survived by his parents and two sisters. The autopsy will be conducted by a team of three doctors at PGIMER on Tuesday to further investigate the incident.
