Tragic Incident on Gangotri National Highway: Landslide Claims Lives and Disrupts Uttarakhand
Four pilgrims lost their lives, and more than six others were injured in a tragic incident on the Gangotri National Highway in Uttarakhand. A landslide occurred during the night as the pilgrims were returning from Gangotri to Uttarkashi near Su Nagar. Massive boulders rolled down and crashed into the passenger vehicles, causing severe damage. Local volunteers, led by Rajesh Kumar, worked diligently to rescue several passengers who were trapped under the debris. However, the rescue operation had to be stopped due to continuous stone pelting
by the locals.
The situation in Uttarakhand remains challenging as heavy rains have led to the closure of the Gangotri National Highway near Bandarkot. Furthermore, a glacier burst in Malari resulted in the destruction of a bridge, cutting off ten villages that connect the Indo-China Border in the Chamoli district.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert, forecasting heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand as the rains continue to disturb lives in the states in northern India. As a precautionary measure, schools in Dehradun, Tehri, Chamoli, Pauri, Bageshwar, Nainital, Almora, and Rudraprayag have been ordered to remain closed on Tuesday.

According to the IMD, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Tehri Garhwal, Dehradun, Pauri Garhwal, Bageshwar, Almora, Champawat, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, and Haridwar districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall on July 11 and 12.
