Trump comments on reporters being shot at Rally

Trump mentions reporters being shot during PA Rally, says ‘Someone Would Have to Shoot Through the..'

At a recent rally in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, former President Donald Trump made some troubling comments about reporters and violence. He criticized what he called "grossly incompetent" leadership and the American media. Trump hinted that he "shouldn't have left" the White House after losing to Joe Biden and discussed his concerns about his safety, referring to a previous assassination attempt against him. He pointed out the ballistic glass used for protection at his events and mentioned spots where he felt vulnerable.

During the rally, Trump said, “But all we have really over here is the fake news. And to get me, somebody would have to shoot through the fake news. And I don't mind that so much.” His words drew attention for suggesting that someone could potentially harm the press.

Campaign response to controversy

Trump’s campaign later tried to explain his remarks. Spokesperson Steven Cheung stated that Trump was referring to the two assassination attempts on his life, emphasizing that the protective glass was not about harming the media. Cheung insisted that the media often jokes about the threats Trump faces, and the comment was taken out of context.

This isn't the first time Trump has mentioned violence in his speeches. He recently suggested that former Representative Liz Cheney would reconsider her support for foreign wars if she faced real threats, using the image of "nine barrels shooting at her."

In contrast to Trump’s aggressive tone, Vice President Kamala Harris spoke at a church in Michigan, emphasizing healing and unity. She mentioned that America has a "divine plan" to overcome division, quoting the prophet Jeremiah. Harris expressed hope in seeing people from different political backgrounds ready to work together for justice. This stark difference in messaging highlights the contrasting approaches of the two candidates as the election approaches.
