The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom has designated Pakistan as one of the countries deemed 'too dangerous' for UK citizens to travel to. The decision is part of an extensive list that now includes a total of 24 destinations banned by the FCDO.
Basis for listing
This list is formulated based on various potential risks that travelers may face, including crime, war, terrorism, disease, adverse weather conditions, natural disasters, and other threats to visitor safety. The newly added countries, such as Russia, Ukraine, Israel, and Iran, are currently embroiled in significant conflicts.
Among the countries already on the blacklist are Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Haiti, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen. Additionally, the FCDO has issued a red list, indicating regions where travel should be avoided unless absolutely necessary. Pakistan is included in this red list as well.

Pakistan has witnessed a significant number of violence-related fatalities and injuries, as reported by Pakistan news website Dawn. In 2023 alone, the country recorded 1,524 fatalities and 1,463 injuries from 789 terror attacks and counter-terror operations. This marked a six-year peak in total fatalities, with provinces like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan being major hotspots for violence.
Escalation in violence
Of particular concern is the disturbing increase in sectarian violence, with acts of terrorism targeting religious communities and places of worship resulting in the tragic loss of 203 lives in 2023. This escalation in violence has been observed for the third consecutive year, indicating a worrying trend for the nation.

The UK Government's decision to list Pakistan as 'too dangerous' for travel reflects the serious security concerns prevailing in the country. With the escalation in violence and heightened risks to visitor safety, travelers are urged to exercise caution and avoid non-essential travel to Pakistan as per the FCDO's advisory.
