Chandigarh has once again emerged as the best performer in school education, as revealed in the Ministry of Education's recent release of the Performance Grading Index (PGI) report for states and Union Territories. After slipping to second place behind Punjab two years ago, Chandigarh has regained its top position. The rankings are based on 73 indicators aligned with various educational data sources such as UDISE+, national achievement surveys, and educational portals. Chandigarh secured an impressive overall score of 659 out of a maximum of 1,000, alongside Punjab as the only two entities qualifying for the Prachesta two grade in the ministry's ranking.
The city excelled in the access domain, infrastructure and facilities, and teacher education and training categories. However, there is scope for improvement in the equity domain, emphasizing inclusivity in education. Chandigarh's education department aims to build on this success and strive for even better performance in the coming years, according to UT Director of School Education Harsuhinderpal Singh Brar.
