UP cop’s remark on Holi and Friday Namaz sparks row

UP Cop’s ‘Holi vs Friday Namaz’ remark triggers controversy

A senior police officer in Uttar Pradesh has sparked a controversy with his comments on Holi and Friday Namaz. Circle Officer (CO) Anuj Chaudhary made the remarks during a peace committee meeting at Kotwali police station in Sambhal. He said that Holi is celebrated once a year, while Friday Namaz happens 52 times a year. His statement has led to strong reactions from political leaders.

Chaudhary advised people who do not like colours during Holi to stay indoors. He also urged those celebrating outside to be respectful and not force colours on anyone. His remarks come as Holi, a major Hindu festival, coincides with Ramzan prayers on March 14.

Reactions from Political Parties

The Samajwadi Party (SP) has criticized the officer, accusing him of acting like a supporter of the ruling BJP. SP spokesperson Sharvendra Bikram Singh said officers should not repeat the chief minister’s words just to please him. He demanded action against officials who make such biased statements.

Manish Hindvi from the Uttar Pradesh Congress Media Committee also condemned the statement. He warned that such remarks could create tension and disturb communal harmony. Hindvi said police officers should ensure peace for everyone, instead of making political statements. He added that no officer should show bias in their duty.

The administration has assured that peace will be maintained during the celebrations. Authorities have urged both communities to respect each other’s traditions and avoid conflicts. However, the debate over the officer’s statement continues.
