UPSC hopeful nabbed in Chandigarh with 236 gm heroin

UPSC aspirant arrested in Chandigarh with 236 gm heroin haul

Chandigarh Police apprehended Aman Thakur, a 23-year-old UPSC aspirant, with 236 grams of heroin near the Sector 16/23 roundabout. Thakur, who recently completed his BTech degree from Jammu University, resides in a paying guest accommodation in Sector 22, Chandigarh. Originally from Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, the arrest followed secret information received by the police.
During interrogation, Thakur admitted to selling drugs in the tricity for the past six months. He disclosed that he sourced the contraband from Kullu and sold it at elevated rates.

Legal action taken:

A case under the NDPS Act was registered against Thakur at the Sector 17 police station, highlighting the severity of the charges.
In a separate incident, the UT police's crime branch arrested Deeraj Sharma, a 30-year-old associate of gangster Bhuppi Rana, retrieving 30 grams of heroin from his possession.
Sharma, already facing multiple NDPS Act cases, trespassing, and rioting charges in various Chandigarh police stations, allegedly purchased drugs from Raja Jhansi in Amritsar at a lower price and sold them at a premium in the tricity. A local court has remanded Sharma to police custody for further investigation into his involvement in the drug peddling network and association with Rana.
