Namo Bharat Train launch in Ghaziabad Jan 5: traffic advisory

PM Modi to inaugurate Namo Bharat Train in Ghaziabad on Jan 5; traffic advisory issued

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate a key section of the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday, January 5. The event will mark a significant milestone in India’s efforts to modernize its transportation infrastructure and reduce travel time between Delhi and Meerut. Ahead of the launch, the Ghaziabad traffic police have issued an advisory to ensure smooth vehicular movement in the city during the event.

Expanding the RRTS network

The Namo Bharat train currently operates on a 42-kilometer stretch connecting Sahibabad to Meerut South, with nine stations along the route. The new 12-kilometer section will extend the network from Sahibabad to New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, passing through Anand Vihar. This expansion increases the total length of the RRTS corridor to 54 kilometers and adds two new stations, bringing the total to 11.

The RRTS aims to reduce travel time between Delhi and Meerut to just one hour, providing a faster and more efficient alternative for commuters. This development is part of the larger 82-kilometer Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, which is expected to revolutionize regional connectivity.

Prime Minister Modi will visit the Sahibabad RRTS station at approximately 11 AM on January 5. During the event, he will take a ride on the newly inaugurated train from Sahibabad to New Ashok Nagar. The certification for this section was recently obtained from the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), ensuring that the stretch is fully operational and safe for public use.

Traffic advisory for Ghaziabad

To minimize disruptions during the VVIP visit, the Ghaziabad traffic police have imposed several restrictions on vehicular movement. The advisory specifies the following:

  • Movement of all types of commercial vehicles—heavy, medium, and light—will be restricted between Mohan Nagar and the Hindon Air Force Station entry gate.

  • Vehicles will not be allowed between Mohan Nagar and UP Gate.

  • Routes from Karangate roundabout towards Hindon Air Force Station entry gate will be restricted.

  • Movement between Rotary roundabout via Nagdwar and the Hindon Air Force Station entry gate will also be restricted.

  • Vehicles traveling between Hindon Air Force Station entry gate and Vaishali Metro (via Mohan Nagar) will face restrictions during the event.

Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly and take alternate routes. The traffic police have also shared key helpline numbers for assistance:

  • Traffic helpline: 9643322904, 0120-2986100

  • Traffic Inspector (Headquarters), Santosh Singh Chauhan: 7007847097

  • Traffic Inspector (IV), Manoj Kumar Singh: 8130674912

Significance of the RRTS

The Namo Bharat RRTS is designed to provide high-speed, reliable, and eco-friendly transportation for the National Capital Region (NCR). With its state-of-the-art infrastructure and advanced safety features, the RRTS is expected to ease congestion, reduce pollution, and promote sustainable urban development. The trial runs for this section began in October 2024, and the certification from CMRS marks a critical step toward its operationalization.

The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is a flagship project under the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). Once fully operational, it will transform regional travel, making it more efficient and convenient for millions of commuters. The new section’s launch on January 5 is a key milestone in achieving this vision.

The inauguration of the Namo Bharat train’s new section is a landmark event for India’s transportation sector. With the addition of this stretch, commuters can look forward to faster, safer, and more comfortable journeys between Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut. As the nation celebrates this achievement, it also sets the stage for further advancements in sustainable and modern urban transit.
