Valley to enjoy unrestricted Independence Day: no curbs or internet ban, confirms police

Kashmir is gearing up to celebrate Independence Day with a significant change this year. Divisional Commissioner Vijay Kumar Bidhuri announced that there will be no restrictions or internet bans in the region during the festive occasion. This departure from previous years reflects the region's move towards fostering a more open and accessible environment for its citizens.

Elevated security preparations

Despite the absence of restrictions, authorities are ensuring a secure environment for the celebrations. A three-tier security arrangement and drone surveillance will be implemented across the Kashmir Valley on August 15. These measures are aimed at preventing any untoward incidents or threats during the festivities.

Additional Director General of Police Vijay Kumar affirmed that the police and security personnel are on high alert, ready to address any potential situations. The usage of drones for surveillance across the region enhances security readiness. Officials emphasize their commitment to ensuring a safe and trouble-free experience for the general public.

The Jammu & Kashmir administration is leaving no stone unturned to mark the country's 77th Independence Day with grandeur. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha kicked off the "Tiranga Rally," symbolizing the "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" celebration, on the banks of Dal Lake. During this event, he paid homage to fallen soldiers as part of the "Meri Mati Mera Desh" campaign.

Sinha's heartfelt words honored the sacrifices of freedom fighters and heroes, encouraging the younger generation to draw inspiration from their valor and courage. The ongoing "Meri Mati, Mera Desh" campaign includes the installation of "shila-falakam" (memorial plaques) in every village of Jammu and Kashmir, honoring the memory of slain soldiers.

Grand celebrations at Bakshi Stadium

On Independence Day, Lt. Governor Sinha is scheduled to hoist the tricolor at the newly refurbished Bakshi Stadium, which had undergone renovations since 2018. This change of venue from the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium to Bakshi Stadium aims to accommodate more participants. Cultural programs by local artists and students are planned to add vibrancy to the celebration.

Various contingents, including those from J&K Police, J&K Armed Police, Home Guards, Fire & Emergency Services, Forest Protection Forces, IRP, CAPFs, and NCC Cadets, have actively participated in a full-dress rehearsal at the stadium. The preparations underscore the unity and spirit of the region as it comes together to commemorate Independence Day.
