Victim’s father rejects money, seeks justice

Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder: victim’s father rejects compensation, demands justice

The father of a Kolkata trainee doctor, who was brutally raped and murdered at a state-run hospital, has rejected compensation, saying it would hurt his daughter’s memory. "I want justice, not money," he told reporters. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is leading the investigation, met with the family on Thursday. The victim’s father didn’t share details of the meeting but said the CBI assured them the accused would be arrested soon. He also thanked the public for their support.

Investigation and public outrage

The incident took place in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where the young doctor had gone to rest during her night shift. The post-mortem revealed she was subjected to severe physical abuse and genital torture. The CBI has already summoned five doctors and hospital staff for questioning. The case has drawn widespread protests, both in India and globally. Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned the case during his Independence Day speech, emphasizing the need to enforce strict laws to deter crimes against women.
